Multimedia Experience

Here is a community model based off of discussion and collaboration between Veronica and I this morning about the culinary arts and culinary enthusiasts. It's pretty text heavy, so enjoy.

activity parameters

physical boundaries: (from Wikipedia) "The word "culinary" is defined as something related to, or connected with, cooking or kitchens... Culinary artists are responsible for skillfully preparing meals that are as pleasing to the palate as to the eye."

who's involved: Those who are interested in technique, refining the culinary arts, and are willing to volunteer knowledge and time to others who share their interests.

equipment: Kitchen appliances, Utensils, an array of pots/pans, knives, etc.

research

demographics: People ages 25-50 who have the means (free time and money) to devote to a somewhat practical hobby. They must have creative drive, posses a basic level of web savyness, and a somewhat fearless disposition. On the flip side, some of the participants will be culinary experts who are willing to offer their expertise and feedback to the community.

individual needs: to gain or share knowledge to promote the culinary arts as part of the everyday.

community needs: These would include a public forum to express their knowledge and creativity. This would include a venue to share ideas, receive feedback, and ask questions. Their needs would also include a library of information that would catalog a collective knowledge of the culinary arts

motivation: This could be tied to recipe and cooking competitions, contribution awards, positive and negative media (movies such as Julie & Julia, shows such as Top Chef, or current events such as food recalls). Our community would also be interested in following celebrity chefs and the social significance of a finely crafted meal.

visual advocacy

It's a new year; this means new challenges and new strategies to tackle. I think my largest challenge will be to become a visual advocate. This will mean I must use design to tackle issues, not products, and learn when to get personal with the issues our world has and how to fix them.

Upon doing socio/economic/political research, I stumbled upon a few things that made my blood boil. In particular, regional cases where "hate" or intolerance was involved. That isn't the worst part of these cases. There is an utter lack of accessible victim services to help survivors of violent acts to physical and mental support.

I think that I have found an issue to make personal, now I'm waiting for the next step.
