I'm glad you have plenty of descriptions on each page. There's a nice introduction as well as the three about tabs that have good and quick information about your collection. I feel that the roll-overs for anatomy of the pinback isn't really necessary. I think roll overs are nice when it is clickable as well. You could probably have the description under each component already there. The roll-overs for the notable manufactures are nice though.
I got confused after clicking on one of the thumbnails under the color sorting method - I didn't notice the "x" in the top right corner and I started to click on another sorting method, but that screen was still up, so I thought that the other two sorting methods weren't finished. Maybe fixing that and have each screen be replaced by the next.
I can see why you rendered the imagery like you did and I think it's fitting, but there needs to be more clarity. when viewing the type placements, I can't see they type placements - too small. Also, what about the type placements - maybe talk about how you organized it more in depth. I don't know what type/image dominance is? Also, the color roll-overs could be a bit dark/saturated, some of them aren't very noticeable.
I like the home page and left navigation bar/colors a lot. Looks good.
I really appreciate the photography you used to render you collection but i really think they get lost with the use of the bit map over everything. A way to improve this might be to simply not have the bit map carry over onto the buttons by making two layers in photoshop and if you need help at all with that i can show you what i mean. I really like how they rollover with the buttons on the lower left but once they light up with the color and the bitmap it really just clutters the image of the button for me. I would love to see a nice crisp color image of the button when i roll over you navigation. Im also curious if the highlight color on the button is just a highlight color or the actual color of the button? Sorry its just a little unclear for me and i think its worth revising. I would like to the see the crispness of buttons like you did in the anatomy of the button and it looks a lot nicer when you use the bitmap in a more selective way. Didnt know if you were planing on showing any up close details of the buttons because i also thing that could be great if you have time.
Your composition and hierarchy are very well thought out and i really enjoy your color palette. Your main nave on the top left is nice and the info graphics that get pulled up are consistent and also nicely rendered. Your content is covering a lot and i think you will have more content opportunity in your history section, which i look forward to seeing. The navigation of the sort by is cleaver and interesting in how you can roll over for the color change and click to bring up additional info. Very impressive and interesting to explore, i didn't see the close button right away so maybe give that a little bit more appearance. Also the crispness info graphs mixed with the bitmap image gives a nice contrast but i think when its all bitmap its a little hard to look at.
Your site seems to be functioning nicely and i think your are starting to get down the whole flash thing, and your rollover, and buttons that you click are well thought out and visible. The current state that shows where i am in the site is nice and i think overall you site is complex and dynamic.
1. You have stated the purpose of your website, and your introduction isn't too lengthly, the right amount.
2. Website is partially functional
3. I don't understand your pie charts, the one at the top i think conflicts with the current bigger one being shown.
4. Your visual language supports your website very well and assists my understanding of your pins. The hand written rendering is very enticing. Not sure about the hot pink matching.
5. Your type in your main menu is a bit on the small side (but who am I to talk when it comes to that)
6. Very Very helpful that your infographs are interactive.
7. Happy Birthday
8. I like the transition of your title typeface when going back to the home page.
